EN 12427 - Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates - Air permeability - Test method
EN 12427 describes the experimental method for measuring the amount of air passing through a door or gate under different atmospheric pressure, according to the classes in EN 12426
Main contents
Tests conducted in a controlled pressure chamber;
- The through-air flow rate is measured in relation to the surface area of the door;
Assessment for:
- Increasing differential pressures (50-600 Pa),
- Total air loss in m³/h per m²;
- Tolerances, environmental conditions and specific instruments are defined to ensure test repeatability.
In practice
EN 12427 provides the official test methods for correctly assigning the class, while EN 12426 indicates the permeability class assigned to the product.
These standards determine performances useful for:
- energy-efficient buildings,
- air-conditioned rooms,
- situations where airtightness reduces heating or cooling costs.
