EN 12489 - Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates - Resistance to water penetration - Test method

EN 12489 describes how to test the water tightness of doors and gates in accordance with the classification levels of EN 12425

Main contents

  • Simulation of heavy rain on one or both sides of the structure;
  • Application of controlled differential pressure (positive or negative);
  • Verification of the absence of visible infiltration for a given period.

Criteria of:

  • sample preparation,
  • quantity and direction of water,
  • environmental conditions (temperature, humidity),
  • measuring instruments and tolerances.

In practice, EN 12489 is the official test protocol for assigning that class while EN 12425 is the standard that defines the performance class, both of which are essential for CE marking (EN 13241) and performance evaluations in outdoor or wet environments.
