EN 13241- Industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates –Performance characteristics

EN 13241 is the harmonised standard for CE marking of industrial, commercial and garage doors, both manual and motorised. The standard defines the essential safety and performance requirements as indicated in the Construction Products Regulation (EU).

Aim

Ensure that the installed product:

  • is safe for its intended use (both manual and automatic),
  • has declarable characteristics such as wind resistance, sound insulation, thermal transmittance, etc.,
  • complies with CE marking, as it is covered by a harmonised standard.

Scope of Application

  • Doors and gates installed in residential, commercial, industrial and public environments;
  • Sectional, folding, sliding, roll-up, hinged and sliding doors, gates.

Are excluded

  • Fire doors (EN 16034),
  • Motorised pedestrian doors (EN 16005),
  • Stadium gates, bulkheads, automatic road barriers (dedicated standards).

Main requirements:

  • Safety in use (refer to EN 12453, EN 12604);
  • Mechanical resistance and stability;
  • Air permeability, wind load resistance;
  • Thermal transmittance, sound insulation, water tightness (when relevant);
  • Durability over time, including maintenance.

In practice, it is the product standard from which the EC conformity assessment (declaration of performance + marking) starts and requires the establishment of a Factory Production Control system.
