EN 16034 - Pedestrian doorsets, industrial, commercial, garage doors - Performance characteristics and fire resisting and/or smoke control characteristics

EN 16034 is the harmonised standard that defines the requirements for the fire and/or smoke performance of gates and doors in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation (EU).

Scopo

Ensure that the product:
  • limits the spread of fire (EI, E, EW),
  • prevents the spread of smoke (Sa, S200),
  • is certified and CE marked with official tests.
EN 16034 is mandatory for the marketing of fire or smoke doors in buildings subject to fire regulations.

Scope of Application

  • Internal and external pedestrian doors;
  • Industrial and commercial doors and gates;
  • Garage doors.
(both manual and motorised doors, provided they have a fire compartmentalisation or smoke control function).

Main requirements

    Fire resistance:
  • E = resistance to hot gases and flames (integrity);
  • I = thermal insulation;
  • EW = limited radiation;
  • Smoke tightness:
  • Sa = cold smoke (standard environments),
  • S200 = hot smoke (critical situations);
  • Performance duration: 15, 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes, depending on classification;
  • Products must be tested according to EN 1634-1 (fire) and possibly EN 1634-3 (smoke).

In practice, EN 16034 cannot be used on its own: it is a complementary standard that must be applied together with a product standard:
  • with EN 14351-1 (for external pedestrian doors);
  • with EN 13241 (for industrial gates and doors);
  • with EN 14351-2 (soon for internal doors).

EN 16034 is essential for the CE marking of fire doors and gates, which is mandatory throughout the EU for the intended uses.
