CE Marking, Compliance of Automatic Doors, Maintenance
Automatic gates and doors are, to all intents and purposes, machines, and as such must comply with current standards and regulations. They must be designed and manufactured in accordance with defined construction criteria and ensure safe operation.
As set out in the new Machinery Regulation, there are various parties involved in the world of motorised doors and gates because, depending on the type of work involved, operators may take on different roles, such as the “manufacturer’s role”, which is primarily responsible for ensuring the compliance of a door or gate. Furthermore, it is necessary to ensure their efficiency through regular maintenance, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Another key element is the “CE marking”, which requires the plate to be affixed directly to the product, bearing the manufacturer’s details and the date of affixing, as also provided for in the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.
Technical File, certification documentation
As with all machinery, the Technical File for motorised doors must also be compiled, including, for example, the Declaration of Performance (DoP), the CE Declaration of Conformity, test reports, the risk assessment, the user manual and the maintenance log.
In addition to the prescribed requirements, it is important that the motorised door is accompanied by technical documentation demonstrating, first and foremost, its compliance and safety in use, but also that the end user is trained and informed about any residual risks present within the door’s operating area.
Tests and inspections to ensure the safety of motorised doors and gates
To ensure the safety and compliance of automatic doors and electric gates, it is necessary to minimise risks and potential harm to people, animals and property. Professionals in the sector must schedule the necessary inspections, use documentation tools such as BlueForce Cloud, and arrange for certification in accordance with the documentation required by the regulations.
If you are a building manager or technical manager, it is essential to be aware of European standards and legal requirements. Often, in addition to routine operational checks, it is necessary to bring the automatic door into compliance with regulations to ensure its efficiency and safety in use.
